VinFast Brings Battery-Swapping Electric Motorcycles To The Philippines

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has expanded its battery-swapping electric motorcycle lineup to the Philippines, marking a rapid rollout of its two-wheeler strategy across Southeast Asia. The launch introduces three models—the Evo, Feliz II, and Viper—aimed at different segments of the market, from practical urban commuters to younger riders seeking sportier designs. This move follows closely on the heels of similar launches in Indonesia and reflects VinFast’s ambition to establish a comprehensive mobility ecosystem beyond just vehicle sales. Central to VinFast’s approach is the integration of battery-swapping infrastructure, which allows riders to quickly exchange depleted batteries for fully charged ones, significantly reducing downtime compared to traditional charging. This system, supported by partner V-Green, is particularly well-suited to the dense urban environments of the Philippines where home charging can be challenging. The motorcycles use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, known for their safety and durability, and offer a range of up to 150 kilometres with two batteries installed, while top speeds vary between 80 and 90 km/h depending on the model. The Philippines represents a strategic market for VinFast due to the dominance of motorcycles as a primary mode of transport across Southeast Asia, where electrification of two-wheelers could substantially reduce fuel consumption and urban emissions. VinFast’s flexible ownership model, which allows customers to either buy batteries outright or subscribe to the swapping service, addresses common concerns about battery degradation and replacement costs, potentially lowering barriers to adoption. The company’s regional strategy involves simultaneous product launches, infrastructure deployment, and dealer network expansion across multiple countries including Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Malaysia. VinFast’s broader vision is to create an interconnected transportation ecosystem that accelerates the transition from internal combustion engines to electric mobility. By collaborating with local partners and investing in supporting infrastructure and services, the company aims to establish a sustainable foothold in the competitive Southeast Asian market.
