Turntide expands axial flux motor portfolio for hybrid and EV integration

Summary By: eMotoX
Turntide Technologies has broadened its axial flux motor range with the introduction of two new models, the AF300 and AF400. These motors offer continuous torque outputs of over 192 Nm and up to 290 Nm respectively, and come in both single- and double-stacked versions. This flexibility allows original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to select from a variety of performance levels while maintaining a compact axial flux design, which is particularly advantageous for integration into hybrid and electric vehicle platforms. A notable advancement in Turntide’s portfolio is the adoption of cast casings, first seen in the AF430S and AF430D models. The cast casing technology enhances the motors’ durability and manufacturing consistency while reducing production costs, making the design well-suited for high-volume manufacturing. Turntide has indicated plans to extend this casing approach across its entire axial flux motor lineup, signalling a commitment to scalable production and improved product robustness. Axial flux motors are increasingly valued for their low-profile architecture, which enables installation in space-restricted environments without necessitating significant platform redesign. This feature is particularly appealing to OEMs and fleet operators aiming to retrofit existing diesel-powered equipment with hybrid systems. Such retrofits can yield fuel savings of between 10% and 20%, depending on the application, contributing to both environmental benefits and operational cost reductions. Steven Hornyak, CEO of Turntide Technologies, emphasises the growing momentum behind hybridisation, describing it as delivering a “dual green effect” by simultaneously cutting emissions and fuel consumption while enhancing economic efficiency. He highlights that Turntide’s axial flux motors overcome traditional barriers related to space and performance, thus enabling more widespread adoption of hybrid solutions across various vehicle and equipment categories. Looking ahead, Turntide is engaging the industry through educational initiatives such as webinars that explore the advantages of axial flux motors in the hybrid transition. These efforts aim to deepen understanding of the technology’s potential and encourage its integration into future hybrid and electric vehicle designs, reinforcing Turntide’s position as a key player in the evolving electrification landscape.
