Volkswagen has introduced the ID. Polo GTI, marking a significant milestone as the first fully electric GTI model in the brand’s 50-year history. Designed specifically for the European market, the ID. Polo GTI combines the sporty character of the traditional GTI lineup with an all-electric powertrain. While it may not rival high-performance electric vehicles like the Tesla Model S Plaid or Porsche Taycan in outright speed, the ID. Polo GTI promises an engaging and dynamic driving experience in a compact package. The ID. Polo GTI is powered by a 166 kW (226 PS) electric motor, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It features a range of performance-oriented components, including an electronically controlled front axle differential lock, adaptive DCC chassis, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle also boasts premium sports seats and IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, underscoring Volkswagen’s commitment to blending comfort with driving pleasure. A dedicated GTI driving profile adjusts the car’s dynamics and cockpit display to enhance the sporty feel at the touch of a button. In terms of practicality, the ID. Polo GTI is equipped with a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 424 kilometres. The car supports fast charging at up to 105 kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes. Its luggage capacity can expand to 1,240 litres, making it suitable for everyday use despite its sporty aspirations. Volkswagen plans to open presales in the autumn, with a starting price estimated at €39,000. The launch of the ID.
