Swiss Post deploys Kempower charging stations for electric buses and trucks
Summary By: eMotoX
Swiss Post has taken a significant step towards electrifying its vehicle fleet by commissioning a Kempower DC fast charging system at its new logistics centre in Villmergen. The installation includes 16 charging points, featuring 14 Kempower Control Units with cable arms and two liquid-cooled satellites designed for high-power fast charging. This infrastructure supports both electric buses and trucks, reflecting Swiss Post’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions within its operations.
The project was delivered through a collaboration between Kempower’s Swiss distribution partner, Jebsen & Jessen, and the utility company Repower, which handled the planning, installation, and commissioning of the system. The Kempower technology offers dynamic power distribution, allowing the charging stations to adapt to demand and ensure vehicles are ready for service when required. This flexibility is crucial for Swiss Post, which operates a fleet of around 2,400 Postauto buses providing public transport in rural areas alongside its logistics services.
Karl Klaus, Real Estate Project Manager at Swiss Post, praised the installation process for its smooth execution and adherence to schedule. He highlighted the system’s reliability and flexibility as key factors supporting the daily operation of the company’s electric trucks and buses. The deployment of this infrastructure marks a vital advancement in Swiss Post’s broader strategy to reduce emissions and enhance the sustainability of its transport network.
Looking ahead, the Villmergen charging station serves as a model for further electrification efforts within Swiss Post’s fleet, demonstrating how scalable and adaptable solutions can meet the diverse needs of commercial and public transport vehicles. The success of this project may encourage similar initiatives in other regions, contributing to the wider adoption of electric mobility in Switzerland’s logistics and public transport sectors.
