Swedish EV charging provider Milepost acquires Mer’s AC charging stations

Summary By: eMotoX
Swedish electric vehicle charging provider Milepost has expanded its network through the acquisition of approximately 250 AC charging stations from fellow Swedish company Mer. These charge points are distributed across the country, from Åre in the north to Malmö in the south, with most offering 22 kW charging power and a select few capable of up to 50 kW. The deal allows Milepost to strengthen its presence in the AC charging market, while Mer shifts its focus entirely to DC fast charging solutions. The acquisition aligns with the strategic goals of both companies, with Mer aiming to concentrate on ultra-fast DC charging infrastructure, and Milepost seeking to broaden its AC charging footprint. Milepost plans to fully integrate the newly acquired stations into its network by early summer 2026. This expansion will extend Milepost’s reach to over 70 municipalities, including new locations such as Malmö and Linköping, significantly enhancing its national coverage. Lars Isaksson, Milepost’s Head of Business Development and Operations, highlighted Mer’s important role in establishing Sweden’s EV charging infrastructure and expressed enthusiasm about continuing to develop the acquired sites. He noted that upon completion, Milepost’s network will surpass 1,000 charge points, serving an additional 37 municipalities. Jesper Thyberg, Director of Network Management at Mer, welcomed the sale, emphasising that the company’s focus on ultra-fast public DC charging makes Milepost the ideal operator to further develop the AC charging stations. This acquisition reflects broader trends in the EV charging sector, where providers are specialising in different segments of the market to optimise growth and service quality. For Milepost, the deal represents a significant step in consolidating its position as a leading AC charging provider in Sweden. Meanwhile, Mer’s divestment enables it to channel resources into expanding its DC fast charging network, which is increasingly vital for meeting the demands of rapid EV charging across the country.
