Superfund Site Still On Track For Solar Power & Green Hydrogen

A former Chevron molybdenum mine and Superfund site in Questa, New Mexico, is set to host a 50-megawatt solar array paired with green hydrogen production for long-duration energy storage. The project, led by Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, aims to provide night-time clean power through hydrogen fuel cells, significantly extending storage capacity beyond existing battery systems. Despite local concerns over water use amid a prolonged drought, the initiative remains on schedule to meet federal tax credit deadlines, marking a notable step in rural renewable energy development and hydrogen infrastructure in the US.
