Sierra Club Wisconsin Slams We Energies for Rate Increase and Once Again Delaying Oak Creek Coal Plant Retirement

We Energies has announced a further delay in retiring its Oak Creek coal plant, now pushed back to 2027, alongside planned residential and small business rate increases of 4.7% in 2027 and 4.5% in 2028. The Sierra Club Wisconsin has criticised the utility for prioritising fossil fuels over a clean energy transition, highlighting the financial and environmental costs imposed on local communities. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission is expected to decide on the proposed rate hikes later this year, despite previously approving similar increases.
