Shell launches new DC charging solution for heavy-duty EV fleets in Europe

Shell’s subsidiary SBRS has introduced the Shell Recharge PowerPack 500, a new DC charging solution designed specifically for heavy-duty electric vehicle fleets across Europe. This all-in-one charger incorporates a liquid-cooled power module, enabling it to withstand rigorous operational demands while offering a projected service life exceeding ten years. The system is scalable, allowing fleets to start with a single unit featuring two DC outputs and expand up to six outputs, delivering a combined continuous charging power of up to 500 kW without the need for major infrastructural changes or depot redesigns. Complementing the hardware, Shell offers a suite of supporting products and services aimed at simplifying fleet electrification. These include PowerOS, a charge point management platform; PowerCare, a service and maintenance contract; and the Shell Card, a payment solution tailored for fleet fuel and charging needs. Together, these offerings provide a comprehensive ecosystem to facilitate the transition to electric heavy-duty vehicles, addressing operational and financial challenges faced by fleet operators. In an interesting move, Shell has also released a report titled "Electric Trucking: From cost barrier to competitive advantage," which highlights the economic benefits of switching from diesel to electric trucks. According to the report, fleets can achieve up to a 10% reduction in total cost of ownership (TCO) by adopting electric heavy-duty vehicles, positioning electrification not just as an environmental imperative but also as a strategic financial decision. This insight underscores Shell’s broader commitment to supporting the shift towards sustainable transport solutions in the heavy-duty sector.
