Rocsys unveils multi-bay hands-free charging solution for robotaxi fleets

Summary By: eMotoX
Rocsys has introduced a new hands-free charging system tailored specifically for robotaxi fleets, addressing a critical operational challenge in the emerging autonomous vehicle market. The Rocsys M1 builds on the company’s existing automated EV charging technology, which has been refined over six years of deployment in demanding environments such as ports. The system aims to eliminate the need for manual charging, a process that Rocsys identifies as a significant bottleneck due to its cost, safety risks, and impact on fleet efficiency. The M1 system features a modular, multi-bay design capable of servicing up to ten vehicles simultaneously, with flexible mounting options that accommodate various depot layouts. Its advanced computer vision and motion intelligence enable it to adapt to different lighting, weather conditions, and vehicle positions, achieving a plug-in success rate exceeding 99.9% in live trials. Additionally, the system is compatible with a range of EV models, chargers, and connector types, utilising a long-reach robotic arm mounted on an overhead rail to reliably connect and disconnect vehicles regardless of inlet placement. Rocsys has integrated the M1 into its broader platform, which combines hardware, software, and services to support autonomous fleet management. This includes the Rocsys Portal for operational oversight, APIs for seamless integration with customer IT systems, and remote monitoring backed by expert support. The company is currently piloting the M1 and plans a large-scale rollout by 2027, signalling its ambition to become a key enabler for robotaxi operators transitioning from pilot projects to full commercial deployment. The announcement coincides with a $13 million Series A funding extension led by Capricorn Partners, bringing Rocsys’s total investment to $56 million. CEO and co-founder Crijn Bouman emphasised the importance of hands-free charging as a foundational element for autonomous fleets, describing the M1 as the “missing link” that will allow operators to run mixed fleets continuously and without interruption. This development positions Rocsys at the forefront of smart charging infrastructure, with potential implications for the broader electric mobility and autonomous vehicle sectors.
