Pionix to provide its EVerest open-source software stack for Tritium’s EV chargers

Summary By: eMotoX
Pionix, a specialist in EV charging software, is set to supply its open-source EVerest software stack to Tritium, a leading manufacturer of DC fast charging hardware. The collaboration, which has been underway for several months, aims to deliver Tritium chargers equipped with EVerest-based software to customers by this summer. This partnership marks a significant step in integrating modular, adaptable software solutions into Tritium’s hardware, enhancing the functionality and future-proofing of their charging stations. EVerest offers a modular architecture that distinctly separates hardware drivers from application logic, allowing for greater flexibility in software updates and integration. Tritium’s chargers using this stack will benefit from an extensible codebase, enabling the addition of new features, support for emerging protocols, and component swaps without extensive system rewrites. Key protocols such as OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 for charger-backend communication, as well as ISO 15118-2 and ISO 15118-20 for Plug & Charge, smart charging, and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communication, are already implemented and tested within EVerest. The software has also undergone certification processes, with EVerest certified for OCPP compliance through other vendor integrations and holding pre-certification for Plug & Charge via Hubject. This pre-certification allows Tritium to leverage existing interoperability validations, accelerating their time to market and reducing the need for redundant certification efforts. For Tritium, adopting EVerest represents a strategic shift to concentrate internal resources on hardware innovation, reliability, and bespoke customer solutions while relying on a robust open-source software foundation for protocol compliance and interoperability. Both companies have expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential. Marco Möller, CEO of Pionix, highlighted the synergy between Tritium’s hardware expertise and the open-source software’s adaptability as a compelling market offering. Meanwhile, Tritium’s Chief Commercial Officer, Jen McClure, emphasised that EVerest provides a proven, scalable software base that will enable faster development of customer-driven features such as Plug & Charge and smarter fleet management integrations. This collaboration underscores a broader industry trend towards modular, open-source software frameworks to accelerate innovation and enhance the EV charging ecosystem.
