Over 200 New EV Chargers Coming To Ohio

Ohio is set to receive a significant boost in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with plans for over 260 new chargers across the state. This expansion is supported by a $51 million allocation from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) programme, supplemented by at least $26 million in private investment. The project will establish 64 new charging sites, each equipped with four charging ports, aiming to enhance accessibility and convenience for EV drivers throughout Ohio. The new charging stations will be strategically located at popular retail and travel destinations, reflecting the growing mainstream acceptance of electric vehicles. Key partners in the rollout include well-known brands such as Sheetz, Tesla, United Dairy Farmers, Aldi, Love’s Travel Stops, and Pilot Travel Centers. Several specific sites in central Ohio have been identified, including multiple Aldi stores in Columbus and New Albany, Shell stations in Hilliard and Grove City, as well as Sheetz locations near John Glenn International Airport and along major routes like I-270 and U.S. 23. Installation of the new chargers is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with the facilities offering additional amenities such as restrooms and food and beverage options to improve the overall user experience. This development underscores the increasing integration of EV infrastructure into everyday consumer environments, signalling a shift away from the perception of electric vehicles as niche or luxury products. Despite political challenges, including attempts to curtail federal EV incentives, the expansion of charging infrastructure continues unabated.
