NSW launches first interactive travel map for EV drivers

Summary By: eMotoX
New South Wales has introduced its first interactive travel map specifically designed for electric vehicle (EV) drivers, known as ‘EVenturemap’. This innovative tool aims to transform routine charging stops into opportunities for local exploration by highlighting nearby attractions alongside EV charging points. Developed through the Joint Organisation Net Zero Accelerator (JONZA) Program, the map is freely accessible and integrates input from regional councils and various organisations across NSW. The EVenturemap allows users to enter any destination and instantly view all nearby EV chargers as well as points of interest such as cafes, parks, shops, and entertainment venues. A distinctive feature is the QR code sticker placed on chargers, which when scanned, provides a personalised guide to local amenities within walking distance. Even without using the QR code, visitors can access the map online and receive detailed information about the area, making it a convenient resource for both tourists and local commuters. Kevin Beatty, a local councillor and chair of the Central NSW Joint Organisation, emphasised the map’s role in encouraging sustainable travel and spontaneous tourism. He highlighted its ease of use and the potential to help a wide range of travellers, from daily commuters to business visitors, plan their journeys with greater confidence. The map is regularly updated with data from the NSW government, Australian Tourism Data Warehouse, and local councils, ensuring that the information remains current and comprehensive. The launch of EVenturemap reflects a broader commitment to supporting the growing EV market while promoting regional tourism. By encouraging drivers to explore local communities during charging stops, the initiative aims to boost economic activity in regional areas and enhance the overall EV driving experience. Additional EV charging operators are invited to contribute their locations to the platform, indicating plans for ongoing expansion and collaboration.
