More than 10 new EV kerbside chargers to be rolled out – with dedicated parking bays

Australian energy company AGL Energy is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure with the installation of 108 new kerbside chargers across New South Wales. This initiative is a continuation of their partnership with Plus ES, the smart meter division of Ausgrid, which successfully deployed 149 kerbside chargers in Sydney last year. The new chargers will be distributed across twelve local councils, including Cumberland, Sutherland Shire, and Newcastle, aiming to enhance EV accessibility in these regions. A significant improvement in this rollout is the introduction of dedicated EV parking bays for each charger. This measure addresses a common issue where EV charging spots are blocked by internal combustion engine vehicles, often referred to as “icing.” By reserving parking exclusively for electric vehicles, AGL hopes to increase the reliability and practicality of the charging network, particularly benefiting EV owners who lack access to off-street parking options. An AGL spokesperson highlighted that these dedicated bays are designed to ensure that EV drivers can consistently access charging facilities without obstruction.
