Model Y L deliveries begin in Australia, the first Tesla with vehicle-to-load
Summary By: eMotoX
Tesla has commenced deliveries of its new six-seater Model Y L in Australia, marking the arrival of the brand’s longest-range electric SUV to date. Available just a month after its introduction on Tesla’s Australian configurator, the Model Y L offers a three-row seating configuration that caters to larger families, with an extended wheelbase and increased interior space. The first customer in Queensland expressed excitement about taking delivery, signalling strong local interest in this new variant amid rising fuel prices and growing EV adoption.
The Model Y L distinguishes itself with a range of up to 681 kilometres on 19-inch wheels, representing nearly 14 per cent more range than other Model Y variants currently available in Australia. Priced from $74,900 before on-road costs, it is positioned as the country’s most affordable three-row electric SUV. The vehicle features an all-wheel-drive powertrain delivering 378 kW and 590 Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in five seconds. Additionally, it is the first Tesla in Australia to include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, allowing a 3.3 kW power discharge for external devices.
Inside, the Model Y L offers enhanced comfort and practicality with adjustable front headrests, second-row captain’s chairs with retractable armrests, and a third row with two seats and cup holders. The rear seats fold flat via buttons in the boot, expanding cargo capacity to over 2,530 litres, which is substantial for a mid-size SUV. Tesla has also upgraded the audio system to 18 speakers and a subwoofer, surpassing the sound setups in other Model Y trims. The vehicle’s ride quality benefits from continuously variable dampers, previously seen in the Model 3 and Model Y Performance variants, contributing to its refined driving experience.
The arrival of the Model Y L in Australia follows its launch in China last year, where it quickly gained popularity among buyers seeking a spacious family EV. With hundreds of Australian customers expected to take delivery in the coming weeks, the Model Y L is poised to strengthen Tesla’s position in the competitive electric SUV market. Early reports highlight its efficiency and driving dynamics, making it a compelling option for those prioritising range, space, and advanced features in an electric vehicle.
