Kia EV2 Production Begins in Europe

Kia has commenced production of its new electric vehicle, the EV2, at its plant in Žilina, Slovakia, marking a significant step in the company’s European electrification strategy. The EV2 is a compact B-segment SUV designed specifically for the European market, where small, high-riding vehicles remain popular. This model joins the EV4, which began production in the same facility in August last year, highlighting Kia’s growing commitment to electric mobility within the region. The EV2 offers a choice between two battery capacities—42.2 kWh and 61.0 kWh—providing estimated driving ranges of up to 317 and 453 kilometres respectively, pending official WLTP certification. It supports a variety of charging options including 400V DC fast charging and AC charging at 11 kW and 22 kW, catering to both urban and longer-distance travel needs. The vehicle also features advanced connected services such as EV route planning, Plug & Charge functionality, and bidirectional charging, enhancing user convenience and ownership experience. Kia emphasises the EV2’s practicality and modern design, positioning it as a primary family car that balances compact dimensions with spacious interior features. The rear seats can slide and recline, and the vehicle offers up to 403 litres of cargo space, making it versatile for everyday use. Technological highlights include a triple-screen display, over-the-air software updates, and a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, which collectively exceed expectations for vehicles in this segment. Soohang Chang, President and CEO of Kia Europe, underscored the significance of the EV2’s production start as a demonstration of the company’s technical capabilities and manufacturing flexibility in Europe. With the addition of the EV2 to the Slovakian factory’s output, Kia aims to strengthen its position in the European electric vehicle market and support its broader electrification goals. The launch of the EV2 is expected to enhance Kia’s appeal among European customers seeking affordable, practical, and technologically advanced electric vehicles.
