Hyundai Motor Company Launches IONIQ Lineup Brand in China with the Premiere of Two New Concept Cars
Summary By: eMotoX
Hyundai Motor Company has officially launched its all-electric IONIQ brand in China, marking a significant step in its commitment to the country’s new energy vehicle (NEV) market. The launch event in Beijing, held ahead of Auto China 2026, unveiled two new concept cars—the VENUS Concept sedan and the EARTH Concept family SUV. These models represent the start of a fresh chapter for IONIQ in China, signalling Hyundai’s intention to expand beyond vehicle sales into a broader mobility experience tailored specifically for Chinese consumers.
The IONIQ brand, already recognised globally for its innovation and quality through models like the IONIQ 5, 6, and 9, will be adapted to meet the unique demands of the Chinese market. Hyundai plans to introduce a new naming convention based on planets, reflecting a customer-centric approach where each model orbits around user needs. The VENUS and EARTH concepts embody this strategy, featuring distinctive single-curve designs and advanced interiors that blend premium materials with playful, character-driven elements to create an emotional connection with drivers.
The VENUS Concept sedan is characterised by its sleek, radiant gold exterior and driver-focused cockpit, designed to evoke a sense of exploration and elegance. Meanwhile, the EARTH Concept SUV emphasises robustness and comfort, with innovative ‘air-hug’ seats and serene lighting inspired by natural elements. Both vehicles showcase Hyundai’s dedication to world-class safety, quality, and smart technology integration, promising production models that combine intelligent driving and cabin experiences tailored for Chinese consumers.
Hyundai’s leadership expressed strong confidence in the new direction, with Li Fenggang, President of Beijing Hyundai Motor Company, emphasising the brand’s commitment to understanding and serving Chinese customers. Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center, described the launch as a declaration of leadership and innovation, aiming to set a new course for electric mobility in China. The company also highlighted plans to incorporate autonomous driving systems developed with local partners and extended-range electric vehicle technologies to further enhance the IONIQ offering.
This strategic move positions Hyundai to strengthen its foothold in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing EV markets. By combining global expertise with localised innovation, the IONIQ brand aims to deliver a comprehensive mobility ecosystem that goes beyond traditional vehicles. As Hyundai prepares to introduce production versions of the VENUS and EARTH concepts, the industry will be watching closely to see how this new ‘universe’ of electric models shapes the future of electric mobility in China.
