Hyundai debuts Ioniq 3 electric hatchback, set to arrive in Australia in early 2027
Summary By: eMotoX
Hyundai has introduced its latest electric vehicle, the Ioniq 3, a compact hatchback set to launch initially in Europe before arriving in Australia in early 2027. The Ioniq 3 is built on the same electric platform as Kia’s recent EV models, aiming to balance driving efficiency, range, and charging convenience. It features an aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient of 0.263, optimising both performance and interior space.
The new hatchback will offer two battery options: a standard 42.2 kWh pack providing an estimated range of 344 kilometres, and a larger 61 kWh battery capable of reaching up to 496 kilometres on a single charge. Both variants support DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes. The car is powered by a front-wheel-drive system delivering up to 107.8 kW (147 PS) and 250 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 170 km/h.
Inside, the Ioniq 3 introduces the Pleos Connect infotainment system, based on Android Automotive OS, available with either a 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch display. The vehicle also boasts a spacious interior, thanks to a long wheelbase and flat-floor design, offering 441 litres of luggage capacity alongside generous legroom and headroom. Additional features include vehicle-to-load functionality and Hyundai’s Digital Key 2, which enables keyless entry via smartphones or wearable devices.
Xavier Martinet, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, highlighted the Ioniq 3’s appeal as a practical and comfortable EV designed for everyday use, emphasising its segment-leading range and aerodynamic efficiency. The model is positioned to broaden the Ioniq brand’s reach by combining bold design with advanced technology and driving enjoyment. Hyundai plans to reveal detailed specifications and pricing for the Australian market closer to the vehicle’s expected launch date.
