GWM Ora 5 small electric SUV arrives in Australia with near 3,000 interested buyers

Summary By: eMotoX
GWM has officially introduced its Ora 5 electric SUV to the Australian market, with the first shipment having arrived and deliveries expected imminently. The compact SUV was unveiled at the Melbourne Motor Show in 2026, and since then, the company has garnered nearly 3,000 expressions of interest from prospective buyers. Priced from $33,990 drive-away, the Ora 5 is positioned as an affordable yet technologically advanced option in the growing electric vehicle segment. The Ora 5 represents a step up from GWM’s original Ora EV, offering a larger and more versatile vehicle designed to appeal to a broader audience. It is powered by a 150 kW front-mounted motor paired with a 58.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering a competitive WLTP range of up to 430 kilometres. This range surpasses that of some rivals, including the BYD Atto 2, and the model supports DC fast charging at up to 120 kW, enabling a 30-80% charge in approximately 20 minutes. Additionally, the SUV features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability, allowing it to supply external power up to 6 kW. John Kett, GWM Australia’s Chief Operating Officer, emphasised the brand’s ambition to make electric vehicles more accessible to Australians, highlighting the Ora 5’s blend of advanced technology and competitive pricing. He described the model as a key part of GWM’s strategy to become a top-five player in the ANZ electric vehicle market. The Ora 5 also benefits from a comprehensive warranty package, including a seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year warranty on the battery pack. The Ora 5 is available in two variants: the Lux, starting at $33,990, which includes features such as a 14.6-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, and wireless smartphone integration; and the Ultra, priced at $36,990, which adds premium touches like a panoramic glass roof, power tailgate, and a nine-speaker audio system. With 127 dealers nationwide, GWM is well-positioned to expand its market presence and build on the success of the original Ora, aiming to attract thousands of new customers to the brand.
