Geely Ups The Vehicle Safety Game In Europe

Geely is raising the bar for vehicle safety in Europe by conducting advanced crash tests that go beyond standard regulatory requirements. The Chinese automaker recently completed a rigorous dual-sided extreme crash test on its Starray EM-i model at UTAC, a Euro NCAP-accredited facility in France. This test combined a side-impact collision with a far-side rigid pole intrusion, simulating complex real-world multi-vehicle accidents and pushing the vehicle’s structural and safety systems to their limits. The test demonstrated Geely’s commitment to safety innovation, with the Starray EM-i maintaining an intact passenger cell and deploying restraint systems with precise timing. The vehicle’s emergency e-CALL system activated immediately, and the doors unlocked automatically, highlighting the integration of advanced safety technologies. Geely emphasised that this test was the first of its kind in Europe, designed to surpass existing Euro NCAP protocols and showcase the company’s leadership in vehicle safety engineering. Geely also highlighted its broader safety philosophy, which has been developed over nearly 30 years of automotive manufacturing. The company has incorporated full-domain artificial intelligence into its Comprehensive Safety System 2.0, shifting the focus from traditional vehicle-centric safety to a holistic ecosystem approach involving the driver, vehicle, road environment, cloud connectivity, and satellite data. This approach aligns with Geely’s vision of zero-accident mobility and reflects its ongoing efforts to enhance safety across multiple dimensions. In addition to its testing achievements, Geely has earned top safety ratings worldwide, including five-star scores from major assessment programmes such as Euro NCAP, C-NCAP, and ANCAP. The company has also taken steps to share its safety innovations with the wider industry by making key patents and Safety Center resources publicly available. While it remains to be seen how much these efforts will shift public perception of Chinese electric vehicles in Europe, Geely’s proactive stance on safety represents a significant move to build trust and credibility in a competitive market.
