Geely lays out electric vision with 1,000 horsepower off-road platform, AI and Galaxy concept

Summary By: eMotoX
Geely has unveiled a bold vision for its electric future at the Auto China 2026 show in Beijing, showcasing a new Galaxy Light concept alongside a pioneering new-energy off-road vehicle platform. The off-road architecture is designed specifically for electrified drivetrains, marking a significant step as the world’s first native new-energy off-road vehicle platform. It features a recessed battery design with a six-layer protective structure to withstand rugged conditions, while maintaining cabin and cargo space, addressing a common challenge in electric off-road vehicle design. The platform’s standout feature is its high-performance electric powertrain, capable of delivering over 1,000 horsepower through a combination of a front P3 motor and dual independent P4 motors at the rear. This setup enables rapid acceleration and AI-driven torque distribution, with the rear motors functioning as an intelligent differential lock to enhance off-road capability. Geely’s use of an integrated body-on-frame chassis, double-wishbone suspension, and a dedicated thermal management system further underlines the platform’s serious off-road intentions, positioning electric off-roaders as an emerging and exciting segment within the EV market. Alongside the off-road architecture, Geely introduced the second-generation Galaxy Light concept, which signals the brand’s evolving design philosophy. The concept embraces Geely’s “Ripple Aesthetics” with a premium, flagship presence highlighted by distinctive exterior elements inspired by natural phenomena and traditional Chinese culture. Inside, the cabin combines advanced materials, intelligent lighting, multi-zone climate control, and “Oxygen Cabin” technology, reflecting a shift among Chinese EV makers towards unique, culturally rooted design languages that prioritise atmosphere and in-car intelligence over conventional luxury cues. In addition to these concept reveals, Geely displayed several production models, including the Galaxy M9, Galaxy V900, Galaxy M7, and the StarWish (known as the EX5 in some export markets). The upcoming Galaxy M7 long-range hybrid, launching in China soon, boasts an impressive pure-electric range of up to 225 km and a total driving range of 1,730 km. Geely also highlighted its i-HEV intelligent hybrid system, which has achieved a Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency, underscoring the company’s commitment to advancing hybrid technology alongside full electrification. Geely’s rapid growth is evident, with over 2 million Galaxy new energy vehicles sold in just over three years and leading sales in China for the first quarter of 2026. For international markets such as Australia, the brand’s next moves remain to be seen, with potential offerings ranging from affordable electric SUVs and premium Galaxy EVs to long-range hybrids or even the high-powered off-road platform. Geely’s comprehensive approach signals an ambitious and multifaceted strategy as it seeks to shape the future of electric mobility.
