ETA Green Power launches ETA-MODEL 20, a 13.5 kg integrated motor, controller and charger for light EVs

ETA Green Power has introduced the ETA-MODEL 20, an innovative 3-in-1 electric powertrain that integrates the motor, controller, and onboard charger into a single compact unit. Designed for light electric vehicles weighing between 300 kg and 2,500 kg, the system weighs just 13.5 kg, marking a significant 32.5% reduction compared to traditional setups. Its smaller volume and streamlined architecture aim to enhance vehicle efficiency and simplify assembly. The ETA-MODEL 20 boasts a peak system efficiency of 92%, a maximum motor speed of 10,000 rpm, and the ability to handle gradients of up to 37% at full vehicle weight. Its IP67 rating ensures robust protection against dust and water ingress, making it suitable for a variety of operating environments. By combining key components into one unit, the design reduces wiring complexity, lowers thermal losses, and consolidates supplier relationships, which the company says leads to a 20% reduction in overall vehicle-level costs and improved reliability. A notable feature of the ETA-MODEL 20 is its avoidance of heavy rare earth elements such as terbium and dysprosium, materials often linked to supply chain vulnerabilities. This strategic choice not only mitigates risks associated with sourcing but also aligns with broader industry efforts to develop more sustainable and secure electric powertrain technologies. Alex Bamberg, a representative of ETA Green Power, emphasised that the system’s reduced complexity and enhanced performance will help partners accelerate their time-to-market and deliver superior vehicles. The powertrain is designed in the UK and manufactured in India, reflecting a global approach to production and innovation. ETA Green Power is currently seeking investment to support its expansion plans and further development of its technology.
