A Tesla Cybertruck driver in Grapevine, Texas, attempted to test the vehicle’s “Wade Mode” feature by driving it into a lake at Katie’s Woods Park, only for the stunt to end in failure. “Wade Mode” is designed to allow the Cybertruck to traverse shallow bodies of water up to a depth of approximately 32 inches, with specific precautions such as keeping doors and windows closed and maintaining slow speeds. Despite these guidelines, the vehicle became disabled and partially submerged, forcing the driver and passengers to abandon it before summoning assistance. The Grapevine Police Department shared images of the half-submerged silver Cybertruck near the shoreline and confirmed the vehicle was recovered from the lake. The driver was subsequently arrested on charges including operating a vehicle in a closed section of the park and various water safety violations. Police emphasised that while the Cybertruck may be capable of entering shallow freshwater areas, legal and safety concerns remain paramount under Texas law, warning against reckless use of such features.
