Chevy Equinox EV Sales Almost Hold Up, But Blazer EV Sales Crash
Summary By: eMotoX
Chevrolet’s electric vehicle sales in the first quarter of 2026 presented a mixed picture, with the Equinox EV maintaining relatively steady numbers despite the loss of the $7,500 federal tax credit. The Equinox EV sold 9,589 units, only a 7.2% decline compared to the same period in 2025. Its affordability and value proposition appear to have kept demand resilient amid a challenging market environment, suggesting that it remains a strong contender in the affordable EV segment.
In contrast, the Chevrolet Blazer EV experienced a significant collapse in sales, plummeting by 82.6% from 6,187 units in Q1 2025 to just 1,077 in Q1 2026. This steep decline is particularly striking given positive reviews of the vehicle, which highlighted it as a well-rounded and recommendable SUV. The return of the Chevrolet Bolt, which saw sales rise from 13 units to 791 year-on-year, helped offset some of the Blazer’s losses, but overall Chevrolet’s EV sales struggled to maintain momentum.
Other models from General Motors also showed varied results. The Silverado EV, an electric pickup truck, saw a drop in deliveries from 2,383 to 1,406 units, although it may benefit from Ford’s withdrawal of the F-150 Lightning later in the year. Meanwhile, the BrightDrop commercial EVs recorded an 81% increase in sales, softening the overall impact of losses elsewhere. GMC’s EV sales were similarly uneven, with the Hummer EV sales halving while the Sierra EV remained stable.
Despite these setbacks, the broader outlook for Chevrolet and GMC’s electric vehicle sales remains cautiously optimistic. The first quarter’s downturn was anticipated, largely due to the expiration of federal incentives, and there is hope for a rebound in the coming months. With General Motors continuing to invest heavily in Cadillac’s EV division and signalling a commitment to electric mobility, the company’s legacy brands may yet see growth in their EV portfolios as market conditions evolve.
