BYD’s Denza Z9GT confirmed for Australia with 5 minute flash charging tech
Summary By: eMotoX
BYD’s premium electric vehicle brand Denza has confirmed that its latest model, the Z9GT, will be launched in Australia in the second half of this year. The Z9GT boasts a remarkable range of over 1,000 kilometres according to China’s CLTC test cycle, setting a new benchmark for production electric cars. Central to this achievement is BYD’s advanced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery technology, which enables ultra-fast charging—replenishing from 10 to 70 per cent in just five minutes and from 10 to 90 per cent in nine minutes—establishing new industry records.
The Z9GT is expected to arrive in Australia initially in its tri-motor configuration, offering an impressive combined power output of 850 kW and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds. This version will mark the first tri-motor EV available in the Australian market, a segment previously unserved due to Tesla’s cancellation of right-hand-drive versions of its tri-motor Model S and Model X Plaid. Denza Australia’s COO Mark Harland emphasises that the Z9GT has been engineered to deliver “exhilarating performance, extraordinary safety and genuine long-distance usability,” aiming to satisfy local demand for uncompromising performance.
In China, the Z9GT comes with two battery options—102 kWh and 122 kWh LFP Blade Battery 2.0 packs—with the larger battery providing the maximum claimed range. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant produces 370 kW, while the tri-motor version slightly reduces range due to its additional power output. While the CLTC range figures are based on a more lenient testing cycle, industry experts anticipate that the Z9GT would still achieve over 800 km under the more stringent WLTP standard, making it a standout in terms of long-range capability for electric vehicles.
Early impressions of the Z9GT suggest it is designed more as a comfortable long-distance tourer rather than a purely sporty vehicle, aligning with its focus on usability and daily driving performance. The rapid charging technology, combined with the car’s range and power, positions Denza and BYD at the forefront of EV innovation in Australia. This launch could reshape consumer expectations around electric vehicle convenience and practicality, especially as fast charging times become comparable to traditional refuelling.
Further details on local specifications and pricing are expected closer to the Z9GT’s anticipated on-sale date in the third quarter. As the Australian EV market continues to evolve, the arrival of the Denza Z9GT with its cutting-edge battery technology and tri-motor performance could significantly influence the competitive landscape and accelerate the adoption of high-performance electric vehicles Down Under.
