BYD deploys first 1,500 kW Flash Charger outside of China

Summary By: eMotoX
BYD has launched its first 1,500 kW Flash Charger outside China, marking a significant step in its international expansion of ultra-fast charging infrastructure. The company plans to establish 6,000 Flash Charging stations abroad by the end of 2027, with half of these located across Europe. This follows BYD’s extensive domestic rollout, where over 6,400 stations are already operational across more than 300 Chinese cities, putting the firm well on track to meet its ambitious 2026 targets. The Flash Charging technology is built around BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0, which utilises Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry to enable rapid charging speeds. At ambient temperatures, the battery can be charged from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, and up to 97% in nine minutes. Impressively, even in extreme cold conditions of -30°C, a full charge from 10% to 97% takes only around 12 minutes. BYD has demonstrated this capability at a high-altitude station near Mount Everest, highlighting the charger’s resilience and performance in challenging environments. BYD’s charging network expansion is complemented by a growing range of vehicles equipped with Flash Charging compatibility. This includes the Denza Z9 GT, noted for its world-leading range of over 1,000 km under the CLTC cycle, which is set to enter international markets such as Australia soon. More affordable models like the BYD Seal 06 and Song Ultra EV are also being introduced, with prices starting below A$35,000, broadening access to fast-charging technology for a wider audience. To encourage adoption, BYD is offering initial customers a generous incentive of 12 months’ free Flash Charging, with an additional six months for pre-orders of certain models like the Song Ultra EV. This strategy aims to build consumer confidence in electric vehicles by addressing one of the key concerns: charging speed and convenience. The rapid deployment of these charging stations and compatible vehicles signals BYD’s commitment to accelerating EV uptake in Europe and other international markets in the coming years.
