Blink Charging to deploy Kempower’s distributed EV charging systems at 14 new sites
Summary By: eMotoX
Blink Charging is set to broaden its electric vehicle (EV) charging network with the installation of distributed charging systems from Kempower at 14 new sites. Two of these locations, Vasa Fitness in Colorado and Idaho Falls in Idaho, are already operational, while the remaining sites are planned for launch along the US East Coast throughout 2026. The new installations will be strategically placed in high-traffic areas near convenience stores, aiming to enhance accessibility and convenience for EV drivers.
This expansion marks a notable shift in Blink’s approach, moving away from its traditional preference for all-in-one chargers towards distributed charging systems. Distributed systems, which separate the power unit from the individual chargers, offer greater flexibility by intelligently allocating power among multiple vehicles. Kempower’s Power Unit, capable of delivering between 600 kW and 1,200 kW, can support up to 12 Satellite fast chargers from a single cabinet, providing scalable and efficient charging solutions.
Blink highlighted the reliability and operational uptime of Kempower’s technology as key reasons behind the partnership. Alex Calnan, Blink’s Senior Vice President of Global Business Engineering, emphasised that successful charging infrastructure depends not only on the hardware but also on the quality of training and support during installation and commissioning. He noted that Kempower’s training programmes have enabled Blink’s teams to execute deployments smoothly and maintain strong long-term site performance.
The move towards distributed charging systems aligns with broader industry trends, as experts in electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) increasingly view this approach as the future of EV infrastructure. While all-in-one units remain popular for their compact design and ease of installation, distributed systems offer enhanced adaptability and power management, which could prove crucial as EV adoption continues to rise. Blink’s deployment of Kempower’s technology may signal a wider shift in the US market towards more sophisticated and flexible charging networks.
