Australian logistics group to roll out 30 electric trucks in service-based model

Australian logistics firm Winning Group is set to introduce 30 electric trucks into its fleet across Sydney and Melbourne through a collaboration with fleet electrification specialist Zenobē. This initiative is supported by a $3.65 million investment from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) under the government’s Driving the Nation Fund. The deployment will include 10 Foton T5 electric trucks at Winning’s Kemps Creek distribution centre and 20 larger 8.5-tonne electric trucks at its newly constructed Altona North facility, with Zenobē providing the necessary charging infrastructure. The partnership utilises a service-based model that allows Winning Group to operate electric vehicles without the burden of upfront capital expenditure on trucks and charging equipment. This approach aims to facilitate a smoother transition to zero-emission logistics by combining vehicles, charging solutions, and ongoing support into a single package. The Kemps Creek site will use existing charging infrastructure, while the Altona North centre will benefit from new facilities designed and installed by Zenobē. Winning Group’s general manager of services, Harry Boileau, emphasised the broader vision behind the project, highlighting the goal of creating a fully electrified delivery journey from port to customer door. He stressed that the initiative is not only about vehicle electrification but also about rethinking supply chain operations to reduce emissions and improve efficiency. This reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability while maintaining high service standards in the home appliance and furnishings sectors. Zenobē’s country director for Australia and New Zealand, Gareth Ridge, pointed to the wider implications of the project, noting that electrification can be scaled across various industries by integrating vehicles and charging infrastructure in a service model. He highlighted the environmental benefits such as cleaner air and quieter streets, as well as the economic advantages of reducing costs and risks for fleet operators. Meanwhile, Federal Energy and Climate Minister Chris Bowen reiterated government support for practical solutions like EV-as-a-service models to ease the transition for businesses and accelerate the adoption of battery-electric trucks nationwide.
