Australian firm debuts vehicle-to-vehicle fast charging platform for stranded and remote EV drivers

Australian company Alpine Energy has introduced the MGEN M40, a pioneering vehicle-to-vehicle DC fast charging platform designed to assist stranded and remote electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Unlike traditional charging methods that require vehicles to reach fixed infrastructure, the MGEN M40 brings rapid charging directly to the vehicle, making it particularly useful in locations where charging stations are scarce or nonexistent. Developed and manufactured in Australia, this mobile charging solution targets sectors such as roadside recovery, emergency response, mobile automotive services, and remote industries including mining. The MGEN M40 delivers up to 40 kW of DC output, enabling approximately 65 km of driving range from just 15 minutes of charging. It supports both CCS2 and CHAdeMO connectors and features OCPP-compliant telemetry alongside 4G/LTE connectivity, making it a versatile and connected platform. Alpine Energy has overcome significant engineering challenges by integrating power delivery, battery management, communications, and mobility into one deployable system. The modular and scalable design allows for adaptation to various operational requirements, enhancing its potential impact across diverse applications. Mark Wexler, founder and managing director of Alpine Energy, emphasised the innovative nature of the system, highlighting its ability to deliver energy where it is most needed rather than relying on drivers to find charging points. He noted the company’s focus on addressing the most challenging scenarios, such as reviving stranded EV drivers in remote areas and supporting fleet operations beyond the reach of the electrical grid. While the platform still requires field validation, Wexler expressed confidence that the mobile, vehicle-to-vehicle approach represents a significant step forward in EV charging technology. Alpine Energy is currently seeking a select group of operational partners to participate in early deployment and field testing of the MGEN M40. Potential collaborators include roadside recovery firms, fleet operators, mobile automotive service providers, and businesses operating in remote industries. Those involved will gain early access to prototype units and receive engineering support to help refine the platform.
