72 New EV Fast Chargers Now Operating In Or Coming To Illinois

Illinois is set to significantly expand its electric vehicle (EV) fast charging network with the introduction of 72 new public fast charger ports. This development comes through a partnership between XCharge North America and JOJO Superfast EV Charging, which has already launched two operational charging hubs and plans to install seven more across the state. Each hub will feature eight charging points, enhancing accessibility for EV drivers in key locations such as Crestwood, Bridgeview, and upcoming sites including Tinley Park, Sterling, and Aurora Outlet Mall. The expansion is part of a broader trend in Illinois, where recent months have seen the installation of numerous fast chargers in cities like Decatur, Chicago, and Springfield. These efforts contribute to a growing statewide infrastructure that aims to alleviate range anxiety and encourage EV adoption. By increasing the density of charging stations, drivers can rely less on ultra-long-range vehicles and more on convenient access to public chargers spaced roughly every 35 miles along major routes. Aatish Patel, President and Co-founder of XCharge North America and an Illinois native, emphasised the importance of this infrastructure rollout. He highlighted that the initiative is not merely about installing hardware but about delivering a reliable and efficient charging experience that builds driver confidence. This approach aims to shift public perception and promote the practicality of EVs in everyday travel. The ongoing expansion of EV charging networks across the US reflects a strategic effort to support the transition away from fossil fuel-powered vehicles. While some critics remain sceptical, the steady addition of chargers is gradually addressing one of the key barriers to EV ownership. As public infrastructure improves, the need for vehicles with extremely long ranges diminishes, potentially accelerating the shift towards more sustainable transport options.
