4 New EV Fast Chargers Running On Solar Power Launched In California

Four new electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers powered entirely by solar energy have been unveiled in California, strategically located between Los Angeles and Las Vegas at 65857 Rasor Road, Baker. The installation, developed by PowerStation, currently offers four CCS charging ports and is providing free charging sessions until the end of May. This station is equipped with 1,080 solar panels and battery storage systems to harness and store renewable energy, enabling 24/7 operation and clean charging even during nighttime hours. The CCS chargers at the site can deliver peak charging rates of up to 360 kW, although actual speeds depend on the vehicle’s capabilities; one user reported charging at 170 kW. PowerStation plans to expand the facility this summer by adding six additional fast chargers with NACS ports, which are expected to provide even faster charging speeds than the current CCS units. The location’s proximity to the busy I-15 corridor makes it a convenient stop for travellers between two major cities, supporting the growing demand for sustainable long-distance EV travel. The launch of these solar-powered chargers highlights a broader shift towards renewable energy integration in EV infrastructure, contrasting sharply with traditional gas stations reliant on fossil fuels. Public response has been positive, with EV drivers expressing enthusiasm about the opportunity to charge their vehicles using clean energy on popular routes.
