Season-Best Fifth Overall for Karlis Reisulis at MXGP of Trentino
Summary By: eMotoX
Karlis Reisulis achieved his best result of the 2026 FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship season by finishing fifth overall at the MXGP of Trentino in Italy. Competing on the demanding Pietramurata circuit, the Latvian rider secured two consistent fifth-place finishes in both races, demonstrating strong pace and composure. His performance marked a continuation of his recent good form, following a fifth-place finish in Race Two at the previous round in Sardegna. With this result, Reisulis moved up to eighth in the championship standings, accumulating 150 points after five rounds.
The race weekend presented challenging conditions, particularly in the opening race where rain made the already tough, rutted track even more difficult to navigate. Reisulis started sixth and quickly moved into fifth, maintaining a solid gap from the riders behind despite the top four breaking away. The second race saw improved weather, allowing him to again settle into fifth place and push hard in the closing stages to close in on fourth, though he was ultimately unable to overtake. His consistent performances underline his growing confidence and competitiveness in the MX2 class.
Janis Reisulis, Karlis’s brother and teammate, also delivered a strong showing by finishing ninth overall after placing 12th and sixth in the two races. The MX2 rookie battled through the rain-affected opening race and engaged in a close contest with Karlis during the second moto, highlighting the siblings’ promising form. Janis now sits sixth in the championship with 170 points, reflecting steady progress through the early part of the season.
Both riders acknowledged the challenges of the weekend, with Karlis noting initial difficulties finding his rhythm on the technical circuit but expressing satisfaction with his race-day improvements and near-podium pace. Janis highlighted the demanding nature of the track and the need to improve consistency, particularly with race starts. The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team will now take a brief break before resuming competition at the MXGP of France on 23-24 May, aiming to build on their positive momentum.
