Official: Ireland name 2026 Junior World Championship riders

Team Ireland has officially announced its squad for the 2026 Junior World Championship, set to take place in Jinin, Czech Republic, on 4th and 5th July. The selected riders span three categories: 65cc, 85cc, and 125cc, with Mason Shields, Jake Sayers, Brendan McAreavey, and Caleb Duffy representing the 65cc class; Daniel Devine in 85cc; and Alfie Herron, Kole Nally, Ollie Holland, Ben Atkinson, and Robert Sweeney competing in 125cc. The team will be managed once again by Richard McKeown, who has been praised by the riders for his leadership. Several of the chosen riders expressed their enthusiasm and pride at being selected to represent Ireland on the international stage. Alfie Herron, a seasoned competitor making his sixth appearance for Ireland, highlighted the technical nature of the upcoming track and his commitment to giving his best performance. Meanwhile, 65cc rider Mason Shields credited his rigorous training regime, both physically and on the bike, for his strong season and subsequent selection, emphasising his excitement to continue building momentum at the World Championship. Jake Sayers, also in the 65cc class, reflected on the learning curve ahead, acknowledging that the World Championship will present new challenges compared to his domestic racing experience. He noted his current standing as fifth overall in the British Championships, underscoring his progress and readiness for the event. Caleb Duffy, competing in the larger 85cc category despite being only ten years old, spoke proudly of his achievements so far this season, including leading the Ulster Championship and breaking into the top 10 in the UK Plews British Masters. The selection of these riders not only showcases the depth of young Irish talent in motocross but also sets the stage for a strong showing at the Junior World Championship.
