Mathis Valin: “We work to win as many races as possible”

Mathis Valin has claimed his first MX2 World Championship Grand Prix victory at the challenging Teutschenthal circuit, which was made particularly difficult by heavy rain on race day. The French rider demonstrated remarkable composure and skill, securing two strong starts and engaging in a fierce battle with Sacha Coenen. A mistake from Coenen in the second moto allowed Valin to pull clear and take the win, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning career. Valin’s breakthrough comes in his second MX2 season after overcoming early-season injuries that limited his participation and testing. Despite these setbacks, he maintained a steady approach with the Kawasaki KRT team, focusing on consistency and confidence rather than making drastic changes. His recent performances, including three consecutive podiums, suggest that he has developed the maturity and speed necessary to contend regularly at the front of the field. This victory is also a landmark for Kawasaki, ending a ten-year drought in the MX2 World Championship category. The Japanese manufacturer last tasted success in 2016 with Dylan Ferrandis, and since then, numerous riders have attempted to restore Kawasaki’s winning form without success. The renewed factory effort launched in 2025, centred around Valin—who was crowned EMX250 European Champion before joining Kawasaki—has now borne fruit, signalling a promising new chapter for the brand. Valin expressed satisfaction with his progress and the team’s collective effort, emphasising the importance of confidence and consistency in his recent results. He acknowledged the significance of securing this first win but stressed the need to maintain this level of performance throughout the season. Currently sixth in the championship standings, Valin has closed the gap on several rivals and is poised to challenge for further podiums as the season unfolds.
