Interview: Kade Walker – “I’m still recovering after the crash”

Kade Walker’s career in professional motocross and off-road racing has been marked by determination and adaptability. Starting his racing journey in Canada and the US at a very young age, Walker moved to Europe at just 14 to pursue his motocross ambitions, eventually competing in the GP paddock and securing a third-place finish in the 2020 EMX2T Championship. Transitioning from motocross to Enduro racing in 2021, he embraced the physical and mental challenges of longer, more demanding events, reflecting a significant shift in his approach and mindset within the sport. Walker’s trajectory took a dramatic turn following a serious accident at the 2023 Baja 1000, where he sustained a traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma for 15 days and caused paralysis on his right side. The recovery process has been arduous, involving intensive rehabilitation to regain mobility and function. Despite these challenges, Walker remains positive about his progress and is grateful to be back on his feet, acknowledging the profound impact the crash has had on his life and career. Unable to return to competitive racing for the time being, Walker has redirected his passion into coaching riders internationally. He emphasises the importance of a positive mindset and gradual learning, focusing on safety and technique as foundational elements for developing riders. His coaching work has taken him as far as Kuwait, where he enjoys sharing his extensive experience and watching his students grow and improve, finding satisfaction in nurturing the next generation of riders. Looking ahead, Walker is determined to remain involved in motorsport through coaching and education, embracing the opportunity to travel and connect with riders worldwide. While he remains open to new possibilities within the sport, his primary goal is to continue contributing through his schools and coaching programmes. Walker’s resilience and commitment to the sport underscore a renewed purpose, shaped by his experiences both on and off the bike.
