De Baets AIT Racing Achieves Success in Arco and Delfzijl
Summary By: eMotoX
De Baets AIT Racing demonstrated resilience and skill across two simultaneous events in Italy and the Netherlands over the weekend. Competing at the MXGP of Trentino in Arco di Trento, the team fielded riders in the EMX125 and EMX250 classes, while Lotte van Drunen represented the squad in the EMX Women’s round in Delfzijl. Despite challenging conditions, the riders showed determination, with notable performances from Torre van Mechgelen and Dex Kooiker in Italy, and a commanding victory from van Drunen in the Netherlands.
At Arco di Trento, Torre van Mechgelen faced a tough weekend in the EMX125 class. After narrowly qualifying in 20th place, he struggled in the first moto, finishing 36th, but made a strong recovery in the second moto by securing 20th position and earning a valuable championship point. Dex Kooiker also competed in the EMX125, posting the 15th fastest qualifying time in his group. He maintained competitive positions during both motos, finishing 17th and 15th respectively, despite a late-race error in the second moto that cost him a higher placing. Meanwhile, Vencislav Toshev was unfortunate not to progress to the races in the EMX250 class, missing out on qualification by a narrow margin.
Lotte van Drunen’s performance in Delfzijl was a highlight for De Baets AIT Racing. The two-time world champion dominated the opening round of the European Women’s Championship, setting the fastest qualifying time and winning the qualifying race on Saturday. She continued her commanding form on Sunday, leading from start to finish in both motos and securing victory with an impressive margin of around 30 seconds. Van Drunen’s success underlines her status as a leading figure in women’s motocross and provides a significant boost for the team.
Looking ahead, De Baets AIT Racing will prepare for the second round of the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Harfsen, scheduled to take place in two weeks. The weekend’s mixed results in Italy and the emphatic win in the Netherlands offer valuable experience and momentum for the team as they continue their competitive season. With strong individual performances and a clear focus on improvement, De Baets AIT Racing remains a team to watch in both national and European championships.
