The new Canyon Endurace CFR has been designed with a single purpose in mind: 'Get to Roubaix fastest'

Canyon has unveiled the latest iteration of its Endurace CFR endurance bike, explicitly engineered to excel at Paris-Roubaix, one of the most demanding races on the professional cycling calendar. The new model marks a significant departure from previous Endurace versions, aligning more closely with the aerodynamic and aggressive design language of Canyon’s Aeroad race bike. Developed in close collaboration with the Alpecin-Deceuninck team and specifically tailored to the needs of Mathieu van der Poel, who has dominated Roubaix on Canyon machines, the Endurace CFR aims to combine comfort with race-winning speed. The new Endurace CFR shares much of its geometry and key components with the Aeroad, including the fork and seatpost interchangeability, resulting in a bike that is almost indistinguishable from the Aeroad at a glance. However, it features increased tyre clearance up to 35mm to better handle the rough cobbles of Roubaix, and a stiffer frame to facilitate powerful sprints and sharp cornering on challenging terrain. Van der Poel’s input was instrumental in pushing for a custom carbon layup that maximises stiffness, with the rider even opting for the rigid Aeroad seatpost on his Endurace CFR to enhance power transfer. Canyon has emphasised that the Endurace CFR’s performance is on par with the Aeroad, with aerodynamic testing showing a negligible difference of just one watt in system drag at 45 km/h. The bike was extensively tested in the GST wind tunnel in Germany, using protocols consistent with those employed by Tour magazine, ensuring reliable and repeatable results. The new VCLS Aero seatpost offers a 25% increase in compliance over a rigid post, striking a balance between comfort and efficiency, which is crucial for the punishing conditions of Roubaix. In addition to the bike itself, Canyon has introduced a new CP0053 Race handlebar, designed to complement the aggressive geometry and performance characteristics of both the Endurace and Aeroad models. With its effective stack and reach measurements closely mirroring those of the Aeroad, the Endurace CFR represents one of the most aggressive endurance bikes currently available, blurring the lines between endurance comfort and race-day speed. This launch signals Canyon’s commitment to providing pro riders with specialised equipment tailored to the unique demands of specific races, while also offering enthusiasts a cutting-edge option for all-road racing.
