The Felt Breed Gravel Bike is Back with a Substantially Lighter Frame & Improved Aerodynamics

Summary By: eMotoX
Felt has unveiled the latest generation of its Breed gravel bike, marking a significant step forward under new independent ownership. Since Cesar Rojo and Florian Burguet took full control of the company, they have focused on refining the Breed’s aggressive, race-inspired character while making substantial improvements to its weight and aerodynamics. The new model is designed to maintain the competitive edge of its predecessor, which had already achieved multiple podium finishes, but with enhanced performance attributes aimed at 2026 racing demands. The redesign centres on three key areas: aerodynamics, weight, and fit. Felt has achieved a 10.5% reduction in aerodynamic drag by reworking the frame’s tube shapes for smoother airflow, introducing a redesigned fork tailored for wider tyres, and integrating a carbon one-piece cockpit that reduces frontal area and streamlines airflow. These changes, combined with a lowered frame stack and repositioned seatstays, improve both efficiency and stability, especially important for fast and technical gravel terrain. Weight savings are equally impressive, with the new Breed frame weighing just 950 grams and the complete build coming in at 7.037 kilograms, a 22.8% reduction compared to the previous generation. This was accomplished through advanced Finite Element Analysis, which allowed Felt to reinforce high-stress areas while slimming down others, resulting in a stiffer yet lighter frame. The integrated carbon cockpit also contributes to the weight reduction, being approximately 30% lighter than traditional aluminium components. Felt has maintained consistent reach and stack measurements across all six frame sizes to ensure a race-optimised rider position that balances power transfer with aerodynamic posture. The geometry has been adapted for gravel riding, featuring a slacker head tube and longer wheelbase for stability, alongside chainstay lengths that strike a balance between stability and handling. The new Breed accommodates wide tyres up to 54mm at the front and 52mm at the rear and offers compatibility with suspension forks and dropper posts, reflecting its versatility for varied gravel conditions. The Breed is available in four build options plus a frame kit, ranging from the SRAM Apex-equipped Race UD Carbon STD frame to the top-tier FRD 12K Carbon Light frame with a SRAM RED groupset. Wheel and tyre selections vary accordingly, with Vision wheels and Continental Terra Competition tyres standard across the range. These builds cater to a wide spectrum of riders, from those seeking a competitive race rig to enthusiasts prioritising lightweight performance and advanced features.
