The All-New Lapierre XR Gets Sharper, Lighter, and Fully Ready for Modern XC

Summary By: eMotoX
Lapierre has unveiled a completely redesigned XR model, targeting the demands of modern World Cup cross-country racing with a sharper, lighter, and more versatile package. The new XR retains a familiar aesthetic but introduces significant updates in suspension design, geometry, and materials to enhance climbing efficiency and high-speed control on technical courses. It features a full-suspension 29er frame with 120mm of travel front and rear, aligning with current XC trends that favour balanced suspension travel for both rough descents and efficient pedalling. A key focus of the redesign is the revamped suspension kinematics, which aim to optimise pedalling efficiency without sacrificing active rear-wheel traction. The new vertical shock position lowers the centre of gravity and improves shock accessibility, while a flip chip allows riders to adjust bottom bracket height and handling characteristics without affecting suspension performance. Geometry changes include a steeper seat tube angle, shorter top tube, and adjustable head angles, all designed to centralise the rider’s position and improve climbing agility without compromising stability on descents. The frame incorporates an asymmetric design around the bottom bracket to reduce weight and facilitate the lower shock placement, though this limits water bottle capacity to one. Lapierre has also introduced new carbon layups, with the top-tier XR 10.9 using a high-modulus UD Racing fibre for improved stiffness-to-weight ratio, resulting in a frame weight of 1,730g—slightly lighter than its predecessor. Importantly, the same core chassis and suspension platform underpin all models in the range, ensuring consistent ride characteristics across different builds and price points. At the top of the range, the XR 10.9 represents the pinnacle of the new design, equipped with premium components such as a RockShox SID Ultimate fork and shock, SRAM XX SL AXS drivetrain, and lightweight FSA wheels and cockpit, all weighing in at a claimed 10.4kg. The bike is priced at €10,000, reflecting its high-end specification. Lapierre also offers four additional builds spanning a range of components and prices, making the new XR accessible to a broad spectrum of riders seeking a race-ready, modern XC machine.
