Teenager suffers brain bleed and broken jaw in crash at Paris-Roubaix Femmes
Summary By: eMotoX
Uno-X Mobility rider Kamilla Aasebø sustained serious injuries in a crash during the Paris-Roubaix Femmes race on Sunday. The 19-year-old Norwegian was involved in a pile-up with around seven other riders near the Orchies cobbled sector, approximately 58 kilometres from the finish. Following the incident, Aasebø was unable to complete the race and was promptly taken to Lille University Hospital for treatment.
Medical assessments revealed that Aasebø suffered fractures to her jaw and elbow, alongside a small brain bleed. While the brain injury did not require surgery, operations on her jaw and elbow are planned. Uno-X Mobility expressed gratitude towards the race medical team and hospital staff for their care and extended their best wishes for her recovery.
Other riders involved in the crash also faced difficulties, though their injuries were less severe. Amber van der Hulst of VolkerWessels suffered a concussion and various wounds but was relieved to have avoided more serious harm. Shari Bossuyt and Chloé Dygert, who also abandoned the race due to the crash, escaped fractures, according to their teams.
The race itself concluded with a dramatic sprint finish at the velodrome, where Franziska Koch of FDJ United-SUEZ edged out Marianne Vos and Pauline Ferrand Prévot to claim victory. The incident involving Aasebø and others cast a shadow over the event, highlighting the inherent risks of racing on the challenging cobbled sectors of Paris-Roubaix Femmes.
