Tailfin Journey Launches New Durable, Versatile, and Modular Alloy Adventure Rack

Summary By: eMotoX
Tailfin has introduced the new Journey Rack, an alloy rear rack designed to replace its popular eight-year-old Alloy Rack with enhanced durability, versatility, and modularity. Positioned as the most affordable option in Tailfin’s adventure rack range, the Journey Rack features a patented axle-mounting system that attaches through the rear wheel rather than the bike frame. This innovative design reduces stress on frame mounts and broadens compatibility to include a wide variety of bike types, such as full-suspension mountain bikes, gravel, road, and touring models. The Journey Rack is available in two versions: one equipped with pannier mounts and a minimalist variant without pannier fittings. Both versions can be quickly installed or removed without tools, thanks to a new quick-release mechanism. Notably, the rack folds flat when not in use, facilitating easier storage and transport. Its tri-pivot geometry allows the rack to move with suspension compression, ensuring stability on rough terrain, while the rack supports a range of cargo options, from panniers and top bags to cargo cages and strapped-down gear. Tailfin’s redesign incorporates nearly a decade of user feedback and testing, resulting in significant improvements such as a stronger top deck, redesigned quick-release dropouts, and more versatile mounting options. The rack is constructed from lightweight yet durable 6061-T6 aluminium alloy, finished with a black anodised coating for enhanced resilience. It offers generous tyre clearance up to 29 x 2.6 inches, with upcoming dropouts promising even greater clearance, and is compatible with both Tailfin’s own pannier bags and other brands. Priced at £150 for the non-pannier version and £190 for the pannier-equipped model, the Journey Rack balances affordability with robust functionality. Load ratings are up to 32kg for the pannier version and 22kg for the non-pannier, making it suitable for daily commuting as well as long-distance bikepacking adventures. Tailfin’s new rack system addresses common challenges in rear rack design by combining rapid attachment, broad compatibility, and modular cargo options, marking a significant evolution in their product line.
