Simpler Colnago TT2 Prototype Breaks Cover at Tour de Romandie for Tadej’s Time Trial
Summary By: eMotoX
Colnago has unveiled a prototype of its new TT2 time trial bike, which was recently ridden by Tadej Pogačar at the Tour de Romandie. Although the bike has yet to receive official UCI approval, it signals a significant update from the previous TT1 model introduced four years ago. Pogačar’s use of the prototype helped him secure a strong position in the race, ultimately contributing to his overall lead, underscoring the bike’s competitive potential.
The TT2 represents a comprehensive redesign, focusing on simplicity and weight reduction rather than solely aerodynamic gains. Key changes include a more conventional fork and headtube, smoother frame contours, a shallower seattube and seatpost, and traditional dropped seatstays replacing the TT1’s more dramatic shapes. Colnago’s priority was to reduce the bike’s weight, achieving a 550-gram saving on the frameset, which is particularly advantageous for time trials featuring hilly terrain or extended climbs.
Despite the simpler design, the TT2 still delivers improved aerodynamic performance, with around 2 watts of drag reduction at 50 km/h compared to the TT1. The new frame shape also reduces the side profile, enhancing stability and control in crosswinds. Colnago highlights that these refinements lead to fewer corrective movements while riding, allowing riders to maintain higher speeds more comfortably.
In its debut, Pogačar was the only rider to test the prototype, using a size Small frame, while his teammate Ivo Oliveira competed on the existing TT1. The new TT2 will be offered in four sizes, from XS to L, accommodating a wider range of rider physiques and modern cockpit positions. Colnago plans to release the bike to the public through dealer channels by the end of September 2026, although this timing may miss key late-season events such as the ITT World Championships in Montréal.
