Sidi Shot 3 cycling shoe review: A large improvement on the Shot 2, but still lacking that little bit

The Sidi Shot 3 cycling shoe marks a significant advancement over its predecessor, the Shot 2S, addressing many of the earlier model’s shortcomings to deliver a more comfortable and performance-oriented road shoe. Positioned as Sidi’s flagship road shoe, the Shot 3 features a redesigned monocoque upper with an internal net structure that enhances stiffness while maintaining breathability through ample perforations. The shoe retains a carbon fibre sole but now incorporates the DUO-FIT carbon chassis, which extends carbon fibre up the heel to create a stiffer heel cup and improve overall rigidity, achieving the highest stiffness index of any Sidi shoe to date. Key innovations include the introduction of the Millenium last, first seen on the Ergo 6 model, which offers a wider toe box and increased volume to better accommodate diverse foot shapes. This modernised fit is a welcome change from the previous model’s narrow and less accommodating design, allowing for a more secure and comfortable fit. The shoe also features new aluminium NUUN 001C dials that provide a more robust and precise retention system, with a flip-up mechanism and central positioning designed to reduce aerodynamic drag and minimise damage risks during crashes. Additionally, the heel adjustment system has been revamped to a tool-free pinch-and-tighten design, which is also removable for riders seeking to save weight. Despite these improvements, the Shot 3 is not without its flaws. The shoe’s length may feel slightly short for some riders, with toes potentially pressing against the front under intense efforts, which could affect comfort during longer rides. The rear heel adjustment system has been described as somewhat superfluous, and the wider sides of the shoe might cause rubbing against cranks in certain pedalling positions. Furthermore, the insole lacks arch support, which may not suit riders with higher arches, although it should be adequate for those with flatter feet. Overall, the Sidi Shot 3 represents a notable step forward in Sidi’s road shoe lineup, blending advanced materials and thoughtful design to create a shoe that is both stiffer and more comfortable than its predecessor. While it carries a premium price tag and some minor fit issues remain, the Shot 3 is likely to appeal to serious cyclists seeking a high-performance shoe with modern fit features and durable construction.
