Redlands Bicycle Classic: Ella Sabo and Jim Brown sprint to victory on stage 4 in traditional downtown criterium

Ella Sabo of Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28 secured a notable victory in the women’s stage 4 downtown criterium at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, marking her second stage win of the event. The race, held on a challenging one-mile circuit, saw a series of attacks neutralised by Sabo’s team, who expertly controlled the pace and positioned her for a decisive sprint finish. Sabo edged out race leader Lauren Stephens from Aegis x Leaders of Enchantment and Heather Fischer of Analog Racing Team, highlighting her strong form and tactical acumen. Sabo praised her teammates for their resilience and teamwork, especially after a demanding previous day, emphasising the collective effort that underpinned her success. Stephens extended her overall lead to 15 seconds ahead of Emily Ehrlich, also from Virginia’s Blue Ridge TWENTY28, while Jamie Chapman remained third in the general classification. Despite the intense competition, there were no changes in the classification jerseys, with Stephens holding the Queen of the Mountains title and Olivia Cummins maintaining the sprint lead. In the men’s race, British rider Jim Brown of L39ION of Los Angeles claimed the stage win after a well-timed sprint, overcoming a late breakaway that was caught within the final laps. Brown’s victory was a form of redemption after narrowly missing out the previous year, and he credited his tactical positioning in the final corners for the success. The general classification saw Project Echelon’s Eric Brunner reclaim the overall lead by securing time bonus seconds, edging ahead of L39ION’s Eder Frayre and Owen Cole from Team Winston Salem. The final stage on Sunday promises to be decisive, with the men’s race featuring a grueling 91.1-mile Sunset loop contested over 12 laps, a course known for shaking up the standings. Both Sabo and Brown acknowledged the challenge ahead, with Sabo confident in her team’s support and Brown highlighting the dual objectives of protecting the GC leader and pursuing stage honours. The concluding race is expected to intensify the battle for overall victory, with time bonuses and strategic racing likely to play a crucial role.
