Parcours claims its new Vibracore vibration-damping wheel tech is equivalent to a 10-15 PSI drop in tyre pressure
Summary By: eMotoX
British wheel manufacturer Parcours has unveiled its latest high-end road wheelset, the Strade GT, featuring a new vibration-damping technology called Vibracore. The brand claims this innovation delivers comfort benefits equivalent to lowering tyre pressure by 10-15 PSI, without the typical drawbacks of running softer tyres. Designed for riders seeking a blend of aerodynamic efficiency, stability, and long-distance comfort, the Strade GT wheels arrive ahead of Paris-Roubaix, a race where rough terrain and rider fatigue are critical considerations.
The Strade GT wheels incorporate reclaimed Aligned Formable Fibre Technology (AFFT), developed in collaboration with Welsh brand Lineat and Nottingham Trent University. This recycled carbon fibre material is integrated into the spoke bed of the rims, where it helps absorb and dissipate road vibrations at a structural level. Parcours reports that the wheels weigh 1,130 grams, feature 49.2mm and 54mm deep rims optimised for 30mm tyres, and utilise Alpina Carbolite Aero carbon spokes, resulting in a claimed aerodynamic gain of 3.2 watts at 48km/h compared to their previous Strade model.
Extensive testing underpins Parcours’ claims, involving multi-axis vibration sensors and a range of riders across different weights, tyre pressures, and surfaces. The trials demonstrated a measurable reduction in vibrational energy, particularly in the frequency ranges associated with ‘road buzz’, supporting the assertion that Vibracore technology can mimic the comfort gains of a significant tyre pressure drop. While the technology’s effectiveness remains to be independently verified in real-world conditions, Parcours has published a detailed white paper outlining its methodology and results.
Priced at £2,499 for the steel bearing version and £2,719 with ceramic bearings, the Strade GT wheelset targets discerning cyclists who prioritise ride quality and performance. The use of recycled materials also reflects a growing trend towards sustainability in cycling component manufacturing. As vibration damping becomes an increasingly important factor in wheel design, the Strade GT’s Vibracore system could represent a meaningful step forward in reducing rider fatigue and enhancing endurance on varied road surfaces.
