Open WIDE 2.0 Gravel Bike Gets Gnarly (and Aero) with 66mm Tires

Open has unveiled the Open WIDE 2.0, a gravel bike designed to blend aerodynamic efficiency with the capability to handle rough terrain using large 50 to 66mm tires. Building on insights from their aero-optimised Open UP model, which accommodates 50mm tyres, the WIDE 2.0 pushes the envelope by prioritising speed and control on challenging surfaces over pure aerodynamic gains on smoother gravel. The bike’s design features a deep-section head tube and cockpit to maintain aerodynamic benefits at the front, while the rear focuses on comfort and performance, with geometry optimised for wider tyres but still compatible with narrower options. The frame incorporates several thoughtful details aimed at enhancing ride quality and versatility. Thin seatstays improve compliance and include subtle aerodynamic refinements, complemented by a 27.2mm seatpost that further cushions the ride. The bike also offers extensive mounting points for bags, including under the top tube and an additional bolt for full-length frame bags, alongside an internal storage compartment within the downtube. Open’s proprietary OPEN BAR integrates the handlebar and stem into a single carbon piece, featuring a hexagonal steerer and adjustable spacers that allow riders to fine-tune reach by up to 15mm, with multiple size options to fit a variety of preferences. The WIDE 2.0 shares its new AC/DC aero cargo fork with the Open UP, which is designed to be lightweight and aerodynamic when unloaded but also easily accommodates bags directly via integrated slots. For riders who prefer traditional bottle cages, inserts are included to attach standard accessories. The fork and chainstay use pass-through brake mounts to simplify caliper alignment, reflecting Open’s attention to practical details. The frame weighs 975g in size medium, supports a maximum combined rider and gear weight of 120kg, and is compatible exclusively with 1x electronic drivetrains. Available in five frame sizes and two stock finishes, the Open WIDE 2.0 is set to begin shipping in May, offered both as a frameset and in complete bike builds.
