OChain Updates Its Products For Easier Service, Upgrades & Adjustment

OChain, known for its chainring devices designed to reduce pedal kickback and chain feedback, has introduced updates to its existing product range following its acquisition by SRAM last year. While no new models have been launched, the company has refined both its base (N and E) and premium (R and S) offerings to align with SRAM’s stringent quality standards. These improvements focus on enhancing durability and reliability, with the updated OChains now featuring a more robust construction that meets ISO and SRAM fatigue test criteria. A significant enhancement comes in the form of improved sealing technology, utilising new gasket materials and double-lip silicone seals to prevent contamination. This design change helps retain lubrication and keep water out, thereby extending the device’s lifespan and maintaining smoother operation. Additionally, OChain has standardised some internal components across all models, simplifying maintenance and repairs for riders and bike shops alike by making replacement parts more accessible and less proprietary. Perhaps the most notable update is the introduction of the External-Adjust Upgrade Kit, which allows owners of the base N and E models to upgrade their devices to premium-level functionality. This kit adds a dial-adjust faceplate with selectable travel settings of 3°, 6°, 9°, and 12°, plus a lockout feature, all of which can be adjusted on the trail without the need for tools or workshop intervention. However, this upgrade option appears to be compatible only with the latest versions of the N and E models, identified by a “B1” marking on the device, leaving owners of legacy models unable to benefit from the new kit. OChain’s updates reflect a broader trend in the electric and mountain bike sectors towards more user-friendly and serviceable components, especially as pedal feedback devices gain popularity. By improving durability, ease of maintenance, and upgradeability, OChain under SRAM’s stewardship aims to enhance the overall rider experience and encourage wider adoption of its technology.
