In terms of aerodynamic testing, Specialized has challenged conventional methods by emphasising the importance of wind angle distributions more relevant to cycling rather than automotive standards. The company notes that typical wind tunnel protocols, which often derive from truck testing at higher wind heights, do not accurately reflect the conditions experienced by cyclists closer to the ground. By refining these testing parameters, Specialized aims to produce more realistic and applicable aero data, ultimately benefiting riders seeking marginal gains in gravel racing. The new Crux 5 is already making appearances in competitive settings, such as the Gralloch event in Scotland, and is expected to be prominent at major gravel races like Unbound Gravel.
