Megamo Brings Avinox Power to the Tarmac with New Upon E-Road Bike
Summary By: eMotoX
Megamo has unveiled its new Upon e-road bike, featuring the powerful Avinox drive system previously seen in high-performance eMTBs. This marks the first time Avinox’s latest M2 and M2S motors have been integrated into a dedicated road cycling platform. The Upon is designed with a carbon frame and road-specific geometry, aiming to deliver a natural riding experience that enhances rather than overwhelms the rider’s input, allowing cyclists to tackle longer distances and steeper climbs with ease.
The bike’s frame is a full Carbon SL build, engineered around the mid-drive Avinox motor and a fully integrated 600 Wh battery housed in the downtube. Megamo emphasises that the Upon is a genuine road bike first, with aerodynamic shaping, a road-specific fork, and clearance for tyres up to 42mm. The cockpit features fully integrated carbon handlebars and stems with traditional road dimensions, providing a familiar fit and feel for riders accustomed to conventional road bikes. The frame also incorporates a 27.2mm seatpost to offer natural compliance and comfort, alongside a Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) for broad drivetrain compatibility.
Megamo has tailored the Upon’s geometry to favour climbing and high-speed stability, with a longer reach and a low bottom bracket to maintain a classic road bike feel. Available in four sizes, the bike is designed to suit riders between 169cm and 192cm in height. The integration of the Avinox M2 or M2S motor units delivers exceptional power outputs of up to 1500 W peak and 150 Nm torque, significantly surpassing competitors like Bosch and Specialized. However, Megamo has calibrated the motor specifically for road use, focusing on smooth, progressive assistance that complements steady pedalling rather than abrupt bursts of power.
The Upon includes a handlebar-mounted Avinox BC100 wireless remote and a top-tube-integrated DPC100 OLED display, allowing riders to monitor and control the motor discreetly. The Avinox app further enables extensive customisation of power delivery and sensitivity to suit individual preferences. While the battery is fixed within the frame, Megamo argues that this design choice preserves the bike’s sleek aesthetics and that most riders will charge at home, mitigating concerns about non-removability. With an estimated range of 70 to 120 kilometres depending on conditions, the Upon positions itself as a high-performance e-road bike for serious cyclists seeking enhanced capabilities on tarmac.
