Knolly Frames and Other Inventory go to Auction Shortly Following Restructuring Announcement

Canadian bike manufacturer Knolly Bikes has entered a restructuring phase following a financial call-in by its bank, RBC. The company’s founder and CEO, Noel Buckley, revealed that despite efforts to right-size the business amid challenging market conditions, the bank’s decision to demand repayment has forced Knolly to reassess its future. Buckley emphasised that the brand is not shutting down but must explore all options to continue operating, with a focus on supporting staff and customers during this uncertain period. The difficulties faced by Knolly reflect broader pressures on small businesses within a concentrated Canadian banking sector, where access to financial support is tightening. Buckley criticised RBC’s approach, noting the bank’s record profits last year contrasted sharply with its unwillingness to work collaboratively with Knolly. Despite these setbacks, the company had been preparing to launch new models and remains committed to fulfilling existing orders and maintaining dealer relationships. In a significant development, Knolly’s inventory is now being auctioned, signalling a potential winding down of operations. The auction includes a wide range of products, from Knolly frames to components by major suppliers such as RockShox, SRAM, and Shimano, as well as tools and office equipment from the company’s headquarters. This extensive sale suggests the brand is liquidating assets, with the auction set to run until late May. The news has been met with disappointment within the cycling community, given Knolly’s reputation for durable, high-quality frames and its status as a respected name in the industry. While there remains hope that the company might find a way to survive, the current situation points to a challenging road ahead.
