Continental Dubnital Gravel Tires Get New 50mm Size to Fit More Gravel Bikes

Summary By: eMotoX
Continental has expanded its Dubnital gravel tyre range with the introduction of a new 50mm width option, aimed at fitting a broader array of gravel bikes. Originally designed for cross-country racing and popular in its 55mm size among gravel enthusiasts, the Dubnital now offers a narrower profile to accommodate frames with tighter clearances. The tyre’s tread pattern is engineered for dry to damp conditions, providing versatility across rocky, hardpack, and medium-loose surfaces, with a fast-rolling centre and pronounced shoulder knobs for improved braking and cornering grip. The new 50mm Dubnital is available in two distinct configurations: a Race casing featuring Continental’s Rapid compound for enhanced speed and efficiency, and a Trail casing that uses the same compound but prioritises durability and control. Alexander Haenke, Continental’s MTB and Gravel Product Manager, highlighted that the 50mm size is particularly suited to technically demanding gravel races such as Traka, The Rift, and Badlands. While the 55mm remains an option for riders seeking larger tyres, the 50mm is expected to appeal to those whose frames can only accommodate narrower widths. Early testing of the 50mm Dubnital on mixed terrain, including broken pavement, sand, hardpack, and loose gravel, demonstrated a well-rounded performance. Despite the aggressive tread, the tyre maintained a smooth and relatively quiet roll on paved sections, while the shoulder knobs provided valuable grip in high-speed, loose corners. Some challenges were noted on loose gravel climbs, though these were considered typical for tyres in this category rather than a specific shortcoming. The 50mm Dubnital will be offered through select retail partners and Continental’s global distribution network, with pricing set at around £67 in the UK, €75 in Europe, and $87 in the US. Weight details have yet to be disclosed. This addition to the Dubnital line broadens Continental’s gravel tyre options, catering to riders seeking a balance between clearance, grip, and rolling efficiency on varied off-road terrain.
